Adventure Time: Fifth Annual SoCal S-Chassis Car Show/Meet

Yesterday, I was invited out to check out the annual SoCal S-Chassis Car Show sponsored by K1 Speed, FR Sport, Godspeed, and Sonicmotors. And wow, I’m still recovering from yesterday’s trip.

If you’re not from the area, Southern California has been feeling like Florida the past couple days with high humidity and temperatures. Even worse, it was labor day weekend and traffic was pretty ridiculous between Los Angeles and San Diego on the northbound and southbound lanes.

The day started out at 7:00 AM. Since I’m currently in-between cars right now, my dad dropped me off at Ronald’s house. For the trip, I would be riding shotgun in his turbocharged 1997 Nissan 240sx SE. Before heading up to Irvine, we would meet up with other 240sx owners in San Diego before driving westbound on the 78 and northward to Irvine on the 5.

We would arrive as the event staff opened the parking lot for people to park in their respective areas; the cars were split up into different areas by chassis codes ranging from S12 to S14. Well over 70 170+ Nissans came and went throughout the day. Many cars ranging from show quality to drift missiles made their mark, scraping up bumps and down potholes along the parking lot.

It wasn’t a fun time to be standing outside. As soon as we arrived, I was already sweating profusely in the 90+ degree, 70% humid, heat. Before long, our clique decided to relax inside the K1 speed building and watched some of the event attendees race electric go-karts. I’ve never seen so many bumps and crashes in one race. Haha.

Yea, not all of them drove well. How did this happen?

An hour before the winners of the car show and FRsport raffle were to be announced, my group and I set out to make our rounds around the parking lot. Not to my surprise, a lot of people left by now. The heat wasn’t too friendly to everyone after all, haha. After a few snaps, I wasn’t feeling up to finding the best composure anymore. I took enough to share some of the cars that caught my eye though.

Many cars attracted large crowds of people. Ronald's S14 and the black S13 parked next to him seemed to draw a lot of people throughout the day.

Shortly after making our rounds, the announcements for the raffle winners and car show winners were ready to be announced. At the end of the day, we would learn that my friend, Twan, would win best S13 hatchback of the show. Congratulations!
