Here’s a picture of meeting my drift hero. I’ve admired Yasuyuki Kazama’s driving style since I first got my hands on an Option DVD and there hasn’t been a driver like him since 2006. Luckily, I was able to meet him before he stopped competing in D1GP. I believe this was also the last year that the Japanese series had US stops.
Some neat tidbits of his D1GP career.
Finished in a podium position 13 times between 2001 to 2006 with 7 of those in 1st place. In 2005, he finished as the point’s leader, earning him the title of D1GP 2005 Champion. His green Kei Office Silvia S15 was also one of the most recognizable Japanese professional drift cars of the era and is also known for introducing the “rodeo drift” stunt in drift demos. Awesome.
